It has been reported that a police officer has been stabbed at Berekum, and has since died from his wounds.

This is a truly horrendous incident, which ought not to happen again.

We need to put in place measures that not only protect civilians who come in contact with our police, but also our police personnel when they come in contact with potentially violent civilians.

The only way to do this is to put in place a training regime that protects both the police officers, and the civilians.

We believe that the police should be educated on the proper means of restraining suspects. They should be trained in the ways in which suspects can be transported safely. When this happens, the police officers themselves would also be safe.

That said, we believe that the nation should also begin to invest more money in the training of medical staff on trauma and violent injuries.

Whilst neither medical staff or the handling of this person has not be blamed for his death, it would still be a great comfort to all if we know that our medical staff have the requisite training when it comes to handling injuries.

We once again console the Police Administration, and the family of the slain police officer.
