The Ghana AIDS Commission is preparing to roll out a new range of ultra thin condoms from Friday, November 6, 2026, following feedback from consumers about the comfort, fit and overall suitability of products previously distributed.
The latest products are expected to provide greater comfort, improved flexibility and enhanced durability, with different sizes designed to accommodate the needs of Ghanaian men.
Director General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Dr Kharmacelle Prosper Akanbong, disclosed that the new range was developed after the Commission reviewed concerns and complaints submitted by users during earlier product assessments.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on Thursday, November 5, he explained that the redesigned condoms were intended to improve consumer satisfaction and encourage greater acceptance without compromising the quality, safety and effectiveness required of such products.
“These condoms will be ultra-thin, with good user acceptability, comparable to other commercial ultra-thin condoms in the market. We took into consideration user complaints in our previous assessment, and the new ones that are coming would satisfy most of the user complaints,” he said.
Dr Akanbong further indicated that the new products would feature improved elasticity, greater resistance to damage and better lubrication, characteristics expected to enhance comfort and the overall experience for consumers.
He explained that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) was expected to grant clearance for the initial consignment before the Commission proceeded with its nationwide distribution arrangements.
Following regulatory approval, the condoms will be supplied to the Commission’s stakeholders and other designated distribution centres to facilitate public access.
The Director General indicated that the products could become available for public use as early as Friday, November 6, although distribution could also commence on Monday, November 9, depending on the completion of the necessary approval and release procedures.
