Accra, Sept. 17, GNA – More than 140 retired ministers of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, in Greater Accra East and West, together with their spouses, have benefited from a free health screening programme organised by the Lordina Foundation.

The exercise, held at the Ringway Gospel Centre in Accra, provided vital health consultations, laboratory tests, and free medication to ensure the continued well-being of the retirees.

Beneficiaries were screened for blood sugar levels, Hepatitis B, certain cancers, prostate health, and other essential indicators. The medical team included general practitioners, gynaecologists,

urologists, dietitians, and optometrists.

The health support initiative was instituted by Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s First Lady, in fulfillment of a pledge made in September 2024 during a church event to regularly support members of the Assemblies of God Retired Ministers and Spouses Association.

Since then, screenings have been held in November 2024, March 2025, June 2025, and now September 2025.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady said the continuation of the programme was inspired by the impact of the earlier editions, which had relieved retirees of the financial burden of purchasing expensive medication.

“Our retired ministers have diligently served the church, the community, and the nation. This initiative is one of the ways the Lordina Foundation gives back to society, supporting those who have dedicated their lives to serving others,” she said.

She assured beneficiaries that the programme would continue, stressing that their health and well-being remained paramount to her and President John Dramani Mahama.

Mrs. Mahama encouraged participants to take their medications and follow-up consultations seriously to ensure long-term improvements in their health.

She also expressed gratitude to the medical team for their professionalism, compassion, and dedication.

Dr. George Selorm Quarcoe, A Board member of the Lordina Foundation, underscored the Foundation’s focus on health and education.

“These are not just necessities but the very pillars upon which thriving communities are built. Through our programmes, we aim to uplift those who have devoted their lives to service,” he noted.

Rev. Andrews Nelson Awintia, the Greater Accra East Regional Superintendent of Assemblies of God, praised the initiative, saying it had lifted a huge burden from the church.

“Since she started the free medical care, no retired minister has come to the office asking for support,” he said.

Rev. Dr. Harry Insaidoo, President of the Retired Ministers and Spouses Association, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, describing the continued assistance from the Lordina Foundation as invaluable.

The initiative has become a cornerstone of the Lordina Foundation’s outreach, offering both practical health solutions and reassurance to a group that has long served the spiritual and social fabric of Ghana.
