Ghana’s economy expanded by 6 per cent in 2025 to GH¢1.4 trillion, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) in its maiden Ghana in Numbers report launched in Accra on October 29, 2026. GDP per capita stood at GH¢42,502, equivalent to US$3,385, with services contributing 45.9 per cent of output, industry 31.3 per cent and agriculture 22.8 per cent.

The report also pointed to improved macroeconomic stability. Inflation declined from 23.8 per cent in December 2024 to 5.4 per cent in December 2025, while gross international reserves rose to US$13.8 billion, providing 5.7 months of import cover. Multidimensional poverty fell from 31.2 per cent in 2022 to 23 per cent in 2025.

Despite the gains, the Ghana Statistical Service cautioned that economic expansion has not translated into adequate decent employment. Unemployment averaged 12.8 per cent during the first three quarters of 2025, with more than 70 per cent of jobs remaining in the informal sector. Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem acknowledged the shortfall, noting that addressing unemployment had become increasingly urgent. For households, the significance of the GH¢1.4 trillion milestone will ultimately be measured not by the size of the economy, but by its capacity to deliver sustainable jobs, rising real incomes and lasting price stability. Government Statistician Dr Alhassan Iddrisu urged policymakers to anchor national and regional planning in the data, accelerate the formalisation of informal enterprises and broaden access to affordable credit, currently at 7.4 per cent of GDP. Until these structural gaps are addressed, the record output will remain an indicator of economic scale rather than a guarantee of shared prosperity.
