The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has backed the right of National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia to contest the presidency, saying his years of dedicated service make him qualified to seek the highest office. Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, November 3, Mr Kwetey said there was nothing wrong with Mr Asiedu Nketia pursuing a presidential ambition if he chooses to, describing him as a committed stalwart who has served diligently at the highest levels of the party and deserves the opportunity.

However, Mr Kwetey was careful not to endorse Mr Asiedu Nketia’s possible bid, stressing that his role is to ensure a fair contest for all aspirants. He said party leadership must keep the NDC strong as an organisation and create a level playing field so every qualified candidate can freely pursue their ambition. He insisted the eventual choice must rest with party members, not individual leaders, and that he would not impose his personal preference.Mr Kwetey’s comments come amid ongoing discussions within the NDC about possible contenders for the party’s next flagbearer election. Mr Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, has held several key positions including General Secretary and National Chairman, and his possible entry would add another prominent figure to the debate over the party’s future leadership.
