More than 60,000 teachers nationwide have finished the three-day Ghana Education Service promotion exercise, which ended on Wednesday, November 5th. Monitoring officers reported a largely smooth and incident-free process at centres across the country. The exercise is expected to widen opportunities for career growth under a new policy that separates professional ranks from administrative posts.

In a statement signed by Public Relations Officer Daniel Fenyi and shared on Facebook, the GES said this year’s exercise was especially important because it marked a major step in putting the decoupling policy into practice. The policy aims to expand progression and ensure qualified teachers are not held back by the limited number of administrative vacancies in the Service. Under the new system, the number of teachers reaching Director II is projected to rise by 1,500 per cent, while those reaching Director I will rise by 340 per cent.
The Service also expects notable growth in other ranks, including Principal Superintendent, Assistant Director II, Assistant Director I and Deputy Director. It described the changes as a major shift in the promotion framework, placing stronger emphasis on competence, experience and continuous service. As in the previous year, deliberate steps were taken to allow all deserving staff to move up without being limited by vacancy availability. The GES said the policy should have wide-ranging benefits for teacher morale and motivation by creating a more inclusive system that recognises their contribution and professional development. It wished all participating teachers success and commended officers, invigilators, administrators and other stakeholders whose efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the exercise.
