Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, the Paramount Chief and President of the Aflao Traditional Council, has called on the government to ensure that its “Resetting the Nation” agenda is not reduced to mere political rhetoric.

Rather, it should be translated into tangible development across all sectors—particularly in Aflao.

He made this appeal during a courtesy call by Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, as part of his working visit to the Ketu South Municipality on Monday.

It is the unfortunate duty of the Daily Searchlight to tell the revered paramount Chief of Aflao, however, that the talk of ‘Resetting Ghana’ was mere rhetoric and sloganeering, which will never result in anything tangible.

This dire prediction is borne out of the fact that since this government assumed office, everything it has done has been motivated by what has motivated all previous governments since the inception of the 4th Republic; partisanship.

From the dismissal of high-ranking officials across board, the hounding of other national leaders, to the appointment of key national leaders, every single action has been guided by partisanship.

That is not resetting. That is not doing something different and new. That is setting the old agenda set by previous governments, and there is no sign that things would be different.

Again, in terms of social policy, it is clear that all that is being done is to engage in propaganda as against promulgating and operationalizing realistic policies that would set Ghana off in a new and hopefully upwards trajectory.

We seem to be busy rebranding old wine bottles with new tags, instead of creating new wines.

It is good that the likes of Torgbui have seen the malaise early, and one can only but hope that the advice of well-meaning folks like Torgbui would find fertile ground.

Otherwise, we just have four more wasted years ahead of us.
