The suspect, Abraham Awendok, who previously worked as an errand boy for the couple, was arrested after an extensive investigation linked him to their disappearance and the deaths that followed. The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, announced the development during a press briefing on Monday, September 7, 2026.

According to the police, investigations established that Awendok allegedly killed the couple before taking their belongings and fleeing Ghana for the United Arab Emirates. Authorities subsequently placed him on an international wanted list through an Interpol Red Notice as efforts intensified to locate him.

The international search eventually led investigators to the United Arab Emirates, where arrangements were made for his return to Ghana. On August 30, 2026, Awendok was deported from Dubai and brought back to the country by investigators from the Anti Armed Robbery Unit working together with Interpol.

The police say the suspect admitted during interrogation to killing Dr Amuah and his wife. However, investigators have not yet disclosed the full circumstances surrounding the alleged killings or provided detailed information about the evidence gathered against him.

The couple had earlier been reported missing after relatives and associates became increasingly concerned when attempts to contact them proved unsuccessful. A formal complaint was lodged with the police on April 22, 2026, indicating that the couple had not been seen or heard from since March 23.

When investigators went to the couple’s residence, they reportedly found the house locked while their Nissan Sunny vehicle was also missing. The circumstances prompted the police to intensify their search and assemble a specialised investigative team to determine what had happened.

The investigation brought together personnel from the Missing Persons Unit, the Anti Armed Robbery Unit and the Crime Scene Management Team, who pursued various leads in an effort to establish the whereabouts of the couple and identify persons who could have been connected to their disappearance.

As the investigation progressed, attention turned to Awendok, who had previously worked for the couple and was subsequently traced outside Ghana. Police investigations eventually resulted in the issuance of the Interpol Red Notice that facilitated efforts to have him returned to Ghana.

The police have since recovered the remains of Dr Amuah and his wife. Their bodies have been conveyed to the Police Hospital, where they have been preserved pending autopsy and further forensic examination.

The couple’s vehicle has also been recovered, providing investigators with another important piece of evidence as they work to reconstruct the events surrounding their disappearance and deaths.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a case that had generated considerable concern among the couple’s relatives and members of the public, particularly after their disappearance remained unexplained for months.

Although Awendok is currently the principal suspect in the case, the police have indicated that investigations are continuing. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged killings in greater detail and establish whether any other individuals were involved.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigators continue their work, while the recovery of the couple’s remains, the return of Awendok from the United Arab Emirates and the recovery of their vehicle have provided authorities with critical developments in their effort to bring the case to a conclusion.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that further information will be made available as the investigation progresses, particularly after the completion of the necessary forensic and investigative processes.
