The Narcotics Control Commission has destroyed confiscated narcotics valued at more than $10 million at the Bundase Infantry Training School in the Greater Accra Region. The exercise, carried out on November 5, was undertaken under a court order authorising the destruction, and forms part of the Commission’s sustained drive to eliminate substances that are increasingly being trafficked across the country.

The destroyed items included 564.39 kilogrammes of cannabis, valued at about $112,878, and 4,730,100 capsules and tablets of synthetic opioids, estimated at $5,912,625. The Commission said the large quantities reflect the growing scale of drug trafficking it continues to confront. Also destroyed were an estimated 338,000 bottles of codeine-based cough mixture, valued at about $4,225,000. NACOC said the exercise underscores its commitment to curbing the circulation of illicit drugs and protecting public health and safety.
