The Deputy Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim has revealed that the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) government added 70 nursing training colleges to the existing 25 in the
country since independence to 95.
The Deputy Minority Chief Whip who doubles as Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency revealed
this at Wenchi in the Bono Region. He was there to support the campaign launch of NDC MP for Wenchi
over the weekend.
āSince independence the country had only 25 nursing training colleges but the NDC government has
added 70 to it making it 95 nursing training colleges,ā he asserted.
He said that the quota system for admission to nursing training colleges was based on students from the
region rather than only merit.
However NDC government argued that the quota system was discriminatory.
Hon Ahmed Ibrahim further explained that NDC government took the decision to replace the quota
system with more nursing training colleges to ensure that many Ghanaians have access to nursing
training colleges.
He seized the opportunity to highlight some nursing training colleges established by the NDC government
in the Bono Region.
Among the list were the Sampa Nursing Training College, Dormaa Nursing Training College, Seikwa
Nursing Training College among others.
He therefore urged Ghanaians to vote for former President John Dramani Mahama and parliamentary
candidates for NDC in December 7 elections.
Among the notable dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Bono Regional Chairman of NDC,
Ambassador Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, former Minority Chief Whip, who doubles as MP for Asowase,
Hon Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Wa West, and Hon Peter Lanchene Tuobu among others.
