Mr. Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive on Friday described children as the greatest assets of any country.

He said this was because without them the country has no future.

Mr. Ameko said this when he inaugurated the Adaklu District Child Protection Committee, at Adaklu Waya.

The 19-member committee with representation from the Assembly, Social Welfare, the Police, Judiciary and Media among others, is chaired by Mr. Sylvanus Plaha, the Adaklu District Coordinating Director.

“Because they are our greatest assets we need to protect them from all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence,” Mr. Ameko stated.

Mr. Ameko noted that the committee would play a vital role in implementing Child Protection Policies and ensuring the safety and well-being of children in the district.

It is indeed true that human beings constitute the greatest resource of any nation. If that is true and indeed it is, then it would be proper to describe children as the greatest future assets of any nation.

That being the case, government should have a central policy that is dedicated to protecting children at a proactive level. Even though the Children’s Act as well as the Department of Social Welfare do a lot, we believe that child welfare should be at the centre all of centralized public policy.

It is for this reason that we believe that the step taken Adaklu District Chief Executive is in the right direction. It is a decision that must be emulated by central government and all state agencies and district assemblies. If such a policy is adopted, it would go a long way to ensuring that this nation has a secured future.
