Ghana has marked this year’s World AIDS Day with a new step to expand HIV testing, as residents can now order no-cost HIV self-test kits on the internet for home delivery. The programme, championed by the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) and rolled out by the Ghana HIV and AIDS Network (GHANET), seeks to tackle shame, prejudice and other obstacles that stop many people from learning their HIV status.
Each order comes with two kits to motivate partners to test side by side and take charge of their wellbeing. Although the kits are given at no charge, applicants must cover the cost of delivery. Officials believe the home-testing option will offer privacy, comfort and confidence, particularly for individuals who shy away from clinics over fear of judgment.
The website, www.selftestghana.online, became active on October 1, 2026, and also shares guidance on HIV and directs users to nearly 700 hospitals and clinics nationwide where they can obtain further care, counselling and treatment.
