The memorial, which was unveiled at a ceremony attended by government officials, military representatives, family members and distinguished guests, is intended to serve as a permanent symbol of Dr Omane Boamah’s dedication to national service, humility and commitment to Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Defence Dr Ernest Brogya Genfi explained that the cenotaph was not created to elevate or glorify the late minister, but rather to provide a lasting reminder of the values and principles that guided his public life.

According to Dr Brogya Genfi, Dr Omane Boamah was a person who placed duty above personal recognition and remained committed to serving the country with sincerity and discipline. He noted that those who knew the former Defence Minister well would agree that he would have been uncomfortable with any honour designed solely to celebrate him.

The Deputy Defence Minister stated that the memorial would serve as an inspiration to military officers, soldiers, civilian employees and public officials who encounter it, encouraging them to embrace the same values of responsibility, patriotism and dedication demonstrated by Dr Omane Boamah.

He further disclosed that the construction of the cenotaph was completed without financial cost to the state, following sponsorship from FG Global Company Limited.

The unveiling ceremony was graced by President John Dramani Mahama, who attended as the guest of honour, alongside Burkina Faso’s Minister for War and Patriotic Defence, Major General Salif Simporé, senior members of the National Democratic Congress, military officials and relatives of the late former Defence Minister.

Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah was among the eight Ghanaians who lost their lives in the August 6, 2025 Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The memorial stands as a tribute to his contribution to Ghana’s public service and as a reminder of the enduring responsibility of leaders to serve with integrity, commitment and devotion to national development.
