The Concerned Citizens of Ghana (CCG) has appealed to government, as a matter of urgency, to intervene following the attack on Jonah Capital’s estate and other structures at River Park Estate in Abuja, Nigeria.
According to the Group, the Ghanaian company have come under series of attacks as a result of a purported revocation of the company’s development lease agreement and a forceful entry on the company’s properties under the directives of top Nigerian officials.
At a press conference in Accra, the Convener for Concerned Citizens of Ghana, Mr. James Clark said the group have petitioned the Nigeria High Commission to Ghana to charge the perpetrators with criminal offence as series of attacks on residents and properties remains uninvestigated.
He said, there are Nigerian companies in Ghana including United Bank for Africa (UBA), Zenith Bank, Access Bank among others engaging in excellent business activities without any interference or harassment from Ghanaians and therefore wondered why a Ghanaian company in Nigeria be consistently come under attack while issues and matters of the said revocation is before the law courts.
The ECOWAS Summit, he said, is underway in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and the attacks undermines the mission and vision of regional integration which governments from the sub-region are advancing in the area of free movement of goods and services, rights of establishment of investments across-borders among others, and was quick to call for fair and transparency between Ghana and Nigeria for growth and development in economies.
He however urged leaders of both countries to engage at the diplomatic level to have issues resolved amicably to enable Ghanaians residing in the River Park Estates and its environs to live in safety as arbitration and court processes run their course.
“Ghana and Nigeria have a strong bond in trade, as well as families ties”, he said, adding that there can be no true integration without law and order, hence both countries must diligently cooperate towards the outcome of the dispute in court.
