Speaking at the handover on Monday, February 2, Minister Muntaka emphasized that the provision of these vehicles is part of the government’s broader initiative to enhance the mobility, responsiveness, and overall effectiveness of security agencies tasked with safeguarding public health and national security. He stressed that as drug-related offences grow increasingly complex and sophisticated, the need for well-equipped state institutions has never been greater.

“The evolving dynamics of the drug market require a proactive and agile response. Currently, tramadol constitutes twenty-three percent of all seized medications and psychotropic substances, while the remaining seventy-seven percent includes a diverse range of other controlled substances,” the Minister explained, highlighting the scale and variety of narcotics challenges confronting the nation.

He further noted that the Narcotics Control Commission has been intensifying targeted patrols, particularly during high-risk periods such as festive seasons, to disrupt trafficking networks and curb the availability of illicit substances.

Minister Muntaka affirmed that the government remains committed to consistently equipping security agencies with the resources necessary to respond swiftly and effectively across the country. He described the handover as a tangible demonstration of the administration’s resolve to support state institutions in maintaining public safety, dismantling organised criminal operations, and safeguarding communities from the growing menace of drug abuse.

By enhancing NACOC’s logistical capabilities, the government aims not only to strengthen enforcement but also to signal a sustained commitment to protecting citizens and reinforcing the broader national strategy against narcotics proliferation.
