The Electoral Commission (EC) has set December 19, 2023 for this year’s District Level Election (DLE) per its scheduled activities.
Speaking at press conference today held at EC new headquarters, the Chairperson of Electoral Commission of Ghana Mrs Jean Adukwei Mensa called on all stakeholders to assist the EC by playing their roles to ensure the delivery of a free, fair and transparent election.
According to her, the District Level Elections is non-partisan and is  conducted in every  four years (4) and therefore called on Ghanaians to fully participate in it.
She added that the District Level Elections will be conducted in all the  6,272 electoral areas in all districts with the exception of Nkoranza North and South in the Bono East region because the DLE was not held in the above district in 2019 due to some security reasons.
She is of the view that the District Level Elections is the surest way to ensure development at the district level. Sequential to that the Electoral Commission has announced 12th September 2023 to 2nd October 2023 for voter registration for the District Level Elections.
The registration exercise will take place in all the 268 district offices of the commission including the Guan district. In other words, each district office will serve as a registration centre. The qualification and requirements for registration exercise remain the same as what pertains on the public elections (Registration of voters? Regulations, 2026 (C.1.91).
 (1) as amended a person qualifies to register if he or she is a citizen of Ghana, the person must be 18 years of age or above,  is of sound mind, is resident or ordinarily resident in an electoral area and has not already registered as a voter, or is not prohibited by any of the following Identification documents including, A national identification card (Ghana Card) and Ghana Passport.
The applicants who do not have any of the identification documents listed above are required to present two people who are already registered voters to vouch for their citizenship and age. Per law, a guarantor can guarantee for up to ten (10) applicants.
She opined that the voter registration for District level Elections will not be the final registration for the 2024 General election. She urged the media to use their various platforms to educate Ghanaians about the District Level Elections for greater participation of Ghanaians.
