The people of Adele, an ethnic tribe in the Nkwanta South Constituency of Oti Region has debunked the numerous lies, misinformation and historical inaccuracies that have been put out in the area as well as social media platforms by the Akyode tribe.

According to the Adele tribe, the recent ethnic clashes at Nkwanta were deliberately orchestrated by the Akyode tribe to create trouble at Nkwanta which is known to be a peaceful community in the region.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra, the Spokesperson for the Adele tribe, Mr. Steve Wonder Obour said the needless acts of killings, maiming, destruction of properties and the general mayhem that was visited on the residents of Nkwanta and its environs, is unfortunate.

He said the acts and the inactions committed in the community which was said to be committed by the Adeles are baseless, blatant lies, contradictions and fabrications calculated to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians and to mislead the security architecture of the state against the indigenous Adele people of Nkwanta South.

He said after realizing the shame the Akyodes have brought to the community under the weight of their guilt, they quickly recruited some social media players to shape the issue to their favor.

“Claims by the Akyodes that they owned Nkwanta lands are false, “ he said and disclosed that indigenous people of Adele legitimately gave out lands for construction purposes namely  the Nkwanta Secondary School, Kyabobo Girls Senior High School, the Community / E-Block School, St. Joseph Hospital, Government Hospital popularly called Medical Village and the Kilimanjaro Hotel to the people in the area.

The rest are the Gateway Hotel, Nkwanta Municipal Assembly offices, Nkwanta Dsitrict court, NIB, ADB and Ghana Commercial Bank marking the release of the lands from Adele as legitimate owners of the land.

The Spokesperson reminded the people of Akyode that, it was the Adeles who gave permission to them to celebrate the yam festival (Gyogyible) saying the very people have soon forgotten the approval of the celebration and was quick to describe them as settlers in Nkwanta but for the love and peace of the Adeles, they were granted permission to celebrate the yam festival in 1993 and 2019 only.

“The people of Adele is therefore calling on the government to bring all parties to dialogue and ensure that peace prevail in Nkwanta South towards a process of building a permanent peace,” he said.
