Report by Bernard K DADZIE
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey has stated categorically that, the motive behind “Operation Clean Your Frontage” is not to get citizens arrested but to enable people understand the concept and get themselves involved.
He has stressed that “you cannot just get up and implement something without engaging the people and expect that it would work. There is the need to always engage the people and educate them to understand the policy to be implemented so that, they would be part of it and take it as part of their responsibilities.”
The Regional Minister made this known during an engagement of the various district assemblies in the Greater Accra Region to present their action plan towards the commencement of ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’.
He further revealed that, a City Response Team is being put in place and that, over 600 people have been screened to undergo thorough security training and are expected to return from training to take charge of Operation Clean Your Frontage by the end of February, 2022.
“I am not to do the work alone. I lead in the beginning so that people would understand but now, the MMDCEs has taken charge of the work and I would stay behind,” he noted.
Mr. Henry Quartey, therefore entreated the citizens not to wait for the Assemblies or the Taskforce to come and tell them to clean their frontage before they do, and charged the media to support the exercise because the motives of Operation Clean Your Frontage he averred, is to create awareness for the exercise.
The awareness creation according to the Regional Minister Henry Quartey, is gaining grounds saying, people are beginning to understand and urged everybody to come on board.
To the Minister, the Regional Coordinating Council would be purchasing trucks and Bulldozers to give to the Assemblies for use when requested but said, the Assemblies would buy their own fuel and also, bear the cost of damages that may occurr to the trucks and bulldozers.
“People say, I am relaxed. No, I am not relaxed but, in every town, there is a culture. If you would notice, since December, our Mothers have been allowed to sell because of the Christmas and now it is over”.
The ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ initiative for the Greater Accra Region was launched last year by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, which seeks to make it obligatory for all individuals and corporate entities to be responsible for the cleaning and greening of their immediate surroundings.
