As part of efforts to make justice delivery accessible to the citizenry, His Lordship the Chief Justice has established a High Court at Sowutuom in the Ga Central Municipality. The Court located within the premises of the District Court commenced operations on Monday, July 4, 2022, stated a release from the Judicial Service signed by Justice Cynthia Pamela A. Addo (JA), Judicial Secretary.
The release stated that the siting of the Court in that jurisdiction forms part of measures to ease the burden on Court Users who travel to the Central Business District to access justice.
The general public especially those, within the environs of the Ga Central Municipality and adjoining areas are encouraged to make use of the facility, the stamen said.
The Daily Searchlight would like to greatly commend the Judicial Service and the Chief Justice to locate a High Court at Sowutuom, and away from the crowded premises at Accra.
The initiative would serve to demystify the administration of justice, which is seen as fearful, far-off, and inaccessible.
We have the very sincere hope that this High Court would be the first of hundreds more to be placed deservingly in each district and possibly each municipality.
With such a development, one also hopes that access to the Circuit and District Courts would be made even deeper, sending them down into every town and police district. That would ensure that justice is brought closer to the people for the purposes of civil and crime prevention.
One also hopes that the Ministries of Interior and Local Government and similar institutions would follow the initiative of the Judicial Service by creating necessary parallel organs that would facilitate the work of the new High Court and others like it to follow.
We commend the authorities of the Judicial Service again, and as the Akans say, “Yaa ebi mraa biom’.
