The prestigious recognition, regarded as the highest individual distinction presented at the GJA’s annual awards ceremony, acknowledges his contribution to Ghanaian journalism and his professional accomplishments during the qualifying period.

Mr Osei Bonsu is widely recognised for hosting Ekosiisen, Asempa FM’s popular late afternoon current affairs programme, which provides extensive coverage of political developments, governance issues and matters of national interest.

In addition to his broadcasting responsibilities, he serves as the Programmes Manager of Asempa FM, which operates under the Multimedia Group Limited, where he contributes to the station’s programming and editorial direction.

Beyond his accomplishments in the media industry, O.B. has established a professional career in law, having been formally called to the Ghana Bar in October 2024 after completing his legal education and professional training at the Ghana School of Law.

His academic background also reflects a multidisciplinary educational journey spanning communication, language, theatre and legal studies.

He obtained a First Class Honours degree in Linguistics and Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana before proceeding to Robert Gordon University in Scotland, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Corporate Communication and Public Affairs with Distinction.

He subsequently obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from Central University before completing his professional legal training in Ghana.

His educational and professional development also received international recognition through his selection as a Tullow Scholar and his participation in the prestigious 2017 Mandela Washington Fellowship programme at the University of San Diego.

The latest GJA recognition follows another notable achievement in January 2026, when he was named among the personalities featured in Avance Media’s inaugural Top 100 Ghanaians Powerlist 2025.

He earned recognition in the media category, largely in acknowledgement of his work as the presenter of Ekosiisen and his contribution to broadcasting in Ghana.

Reacting to that recognition, O.B. attributed the programme’s accomplishments to the dedication, professionalism and collective efforts of his production team, emphasising that the success of the broadcast extended beyond the individual presenting it.

He also highlighted his commitment to the twin professional disciplines of broadcast journalism and law, describing both as important aspects of his career and sense of responsibility.

The 30th GJA Media Awards took place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, under the theme, “Celebrating Excellence, Advancing Media Freedom and Combating Hate Speech in the Digital Age.”

The ceremony attracted journalists, media executives, representatives of media organisations and other industry stakeholders to celebrate professional achievements and recognise individuals whose work has contributed to the development of journalism in Ghana.

Meanwhile, Luv FM’s Clinton Yeboah also emerged among the award recipients, securing the Best Radio Feature award for his contribution to radio journalism.

O.B.’s emergence as Journalist of the Year adds another significant milestone to his career, bringing together his achievements in broadcasting, media management and legal practice in a recognition that celebrates his contribution to Ghana’s journalism landscape.
