Bunjai in the North East Gonja District of the Savannah Region has received humanitarian assistance following the devastating floods of September 23, 2026, which displaced hundreds of families and destroyed homes, food supplies, livestock and farmlands. A total of 288 affected households benefited from the intervention by the Member of Parliament for Salaga North, Alhassan Mumuni, in partnership with the National Disaster Management Organisation, as part of efforts to help victims rebuild their lives and recover from the disaster that flattened 70 houses and damaged a key feeder road.
The relief package comprised 200 bags of cement, 50 packs of roofing sheets and mattresses to support reconstruction and resettlement. Presenting the items, Alhaji Mumuni explained that he coordinated the support with NADMO after learning of the disaster while outside the constituency. He also appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to repair the washed-away road to restore movement and guarantee swift access to emergency services, and called for the rehabilitation of the community’s only dam, which was partly damaged, to restore water supply and improve sanitation.
Residents welcomed the gesture, describing the September flooding as a painful ordeal that left many families struggling to cope. They noted that while some houses were completely ruined, others partially collapsed, with several households also losing livestock and stored food. One resident said the intervention would bring some comfort to families still battling the aftermath of the disaster.
