The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) will hold an Extraordinary Congress on Monday, October 26, 2026, to consider proposals from the Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities Ghana (VCTU G) aimed at securing a suspension of the association’s ongoing industrial action.

The planned meeting follows discussions between the leadership of TUTAG and the vice chancellors as both sides seek to resolve the outstanding disagreements that triggered the strike.

In a letter dated Friday, October 23, 2026, and signed by its General Secretary, Dr Francis Fonyee Nutsugah, TUTAG expressed appreciation to the vice chancellors for their willingness to engage and their commitment to finding an amicable solution to the dispute.

The association reiterated its readiness to pursue constructive dialogue and work collaboratively towards an agreement acceptable to both parties, signalling a renewed effort to resolve the impasse through negotiations.

As part of the preparations for the congress, TUTAG called on members of VCTU G to engage the chairpersons of their respective local chapters and encourage them to support the proposed suspension of the industrial action.

The association stressed that these consultations should take place before the congress to help build consensus among members and improve the prospects of a favourable decision.

“We therefore consider it particularly important that the proposed engagements with the Local Chapter Chairmen take place ahead of Congress, to help build the necessary consensus towards a favourable outcome,” the letter stated.

TUTAG explained that the Extraordinary Congress would give its national executive the opportunity to present the proposals and position communicated by VCTU G for consideration and deliberation by members.

The meeting is expected to provide an important platform for the association to assess the proposals and determine whether the conditions are sufficient to warrant a suspension of the ongoing industrial action.

Although the planned congress represents a further step in the negotiations, the strike’s suspension will depend on the outcome of the deliberations and the position adopted by the association.

TUTAG again acknowledged the vice chancellors’ engagement and expressed optimism that continued cooperation would help resolve the outstanding issues and restore normal working relations.

The industrial action has continued to disrupt administrative services at public universities, placing pressure on the parties to reach a settlement. Attention will now turn to Monday’s congress, where members are expected to consider the way forward in the dispute.
