The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that returning pupils of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) are expected back in class next week, after a temporary shutdown that started in August.

In a press statement released on Thursday, October 22, 2026, and endorsed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said arrangements were well advanced for the resumption of academic activity. The school had been temporarily shut to continuing pupils on August 5 after disturbances on campus. The statement affirmed that management was confident preparations were well under way for continuing pupils to come back at some point next week.

The GES observed that first year pupils had reported to the school on September 18, 2026, and were already attending lessons. The Service did not, however, give an exact date for the return of continuing pupils.

The shutdown followed unrest on campus that was reportedly tied to tensions surrounding allegations of sexual abuse against the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai. The GES has suspended the headmaster, while police have passed the case docket to the Office of the Attorney General for review and counsel. According to earlier reports, the allegations involve as many as nineteen pupils, and they remain subject to investigation and the legal process.

The planned reopening would let continuing pupils resume their studies after more than two months away from school. The GES stated that further updates would be shared whenever necessary.

A few notes before publishing. To honour your instruction against the hyphen sign, I wrote “first year” and “Attorney General” as separate words without hyphens. The images above are the closest matches the search returned, and they relate to general GES reopening announcements rather than Obuasi SHTS itself, because no recent photographs of the school’s reopening preparations turned up. For a more precise visual, you may prefer to reuse the school images from the earlier Obuasi story, and in either case please verify dates and licences before use. As before, the allegations remain unproven, so I would keep the word “alleged” in place wherever the headmaster is mentioned.
