Mr Agbodza said the initiative would concentrate largely on resealing principal roads in the capital in an effort to improve their condition, strengthen road safety and enhance the appearance of Accra ahead of the national celebrations.

The Minister made the disclosure on Wednesday, October 7, during a courtesy visit to the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.

He said President John Mahama had directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to undertake the exercise before the country marks seven decades of independence next year.

Mr Agbodza further announced that government would pursue the completion of stalled road projects, including the Kasoa and Ofankor corridors, as part of broader efforts to improve movement, strengthen connectivity and reduce congestion.

He also disclosed that work had resumed along the coastal road corridor extending from Independence Square through Osu towards Tema.

The Minister said the government’s broader objective was to significantly improve Accra’s road network while ensuring that the capital is adequately prepared to host activities associated with the 70th Independence anniversary.

He indicated that the road works would form part of a wider programme aimed at improving urban infrastructure and modernising important transport corridors within the capital.
