The Koblimahagu Zuo community in the Tamale Metropolis has been plunged into mourning and shock following the discovery of three children who had been reported missing and were later found dead inside a parked vehicle.
The children, aged three, five and eight, were reportedly missing since Saturday, prompting an extensive search within the community and appeals to residents and the wider public to assist in locating them.
Their bodies were discovered inside a stationary vehicle on Monday morning, bringing a tragic end to the search and leaving residents grappling with unanswered questions over how the children entered the vehicle and what ultimately led to their deaths.
The circumstances surrounding the children’s disappearance, the length of time they remained inside the vehicle and the cause of their deaths have not yet been established.
Confirming the incident, the Assembly Member for the area, Seidu Fuseini, said the owner of the vehicle had been taken into police custody to assist investigators with their inquiries.
According to Mr Fuseini, the vehicle owner told the police that he had locked all the doors of the vehicle before leaving it.
The account has become part of the ongoing investigation as the authorities seek to determine the precise circumstances that preceded the discovery of the children.
A relative of one of the deceased children, Mohammed Juuna, also disclosed in a social media post that the three children were found trapped inside a stationary vehicle within the community.
Following the discovery, the bodies of the children were conveyed to the morgue of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where autopsies are expected to assist investigators in determining the cause and circumstances of their deaths.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Koblimahagu Zuo, particularly because the children had been the subject of a community search since their disappearance was reported on Saturday.
Police investigations are currently underway as authorities work to reconstruct the events surrounding the children’s disappearance and determine how they came to be inside the vehicle.
The investigation is also expected to establish whether any offence was committed and whether other persons may have information relevant to the circumstances leading to the children’s deaths.
For now, the community remains in mourning as the families await the outcome of the police investigation and the findings of the autopsy.
