John Boadu has pledged to undertake a comprehensive rebuilding of the New Patriotic Party from the grassroots and restore the organisational structures he believes are necessary to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general election.

Mr Boadu made the commitment after emerging as the NPP’s newly elected National Chairman at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where he secured 2,888 votes.

In his acceptance address, the newly elected chairman described his victory not simply as a personal achievement but as a mandate accompanied by considerable responsibility, urging all members of the party to put the internal contest behind them and work collectively towards strengthening the NPP.

“Today is not merely a day of victory. It is a day of responsibility and of great unity. I stand before you with a heart full of gratitude and humility,” Mr Boadu said.

He extended an invitation to the other contenders in the chairmanship race and called on them to bring their knowledge, experience, relationships and organisational capabilities to the broader development of the party.

According to him, the conclusion of the internal elections should mark the beginning of a period of cooperation rather than continued competition among party members.

“There must be no winners and losers. Only one NPP united around one purpose,” he stated.

Mr Boadu said his administration would place considerable emphasis on strengthening the party at the regional and constituency levels, recognising the importance of local structures to the NPP’s organisational effectiveness and electoral performance.

He said the national leadership would maintain close collaboration with regional and constituency executives, Members of Parliament, party patrons, external branches and other organised groups as part of efforts to reinforce the party’s structures across the country.

The new National Chairman also outlined plans to expand the party’s engagement with voluntary organisations, social media practitioners and traditional media organisations, while creating greater opportunities for young people to participate meaningfully in the party’s activities.

He further indicated that leadership development would receive particular attention, including initiatives aimed at encouraging political participation and cultivating new leaders within tertiary institutions.

Mr Boadu said the party’s organisational and financial foundations must also be strengthened, particularly at the constituency level, and pledged to work closely with NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the other members of the national leadership towards that objective.

He cautioned party members against treating victory in the 2028 general election as an automatic outcome, arguing that the NPP would have to earn the confidence of Ghanaians through effective organisation, credible leadership and sustained service.

“Political victory is never an entitlement. It must be earned through service, organisation, credibility, and the trust of the Ghanaian people. That is why our preparation begins now,” he said.

The newly elected chairman also called for renewed attention to grassroots mobilisation, youth empowerment and the participation of women in the party’s political activities.

He said the NPP would also need to strengthen its engagement with professionals, traditional authorities and religious leaders as part of a broader strategy to reconnect the party with different sections of Ghanaian society.

Mr Boadu further appealed to party members to place collective service above individual ambitions and to approach the new political phase with discipline, cooperation and a shared commitment to the party’s objectives.

“So I make this commitment: we will serve the New Patriotic Party with humility, lead through consultation, work with every part of our party and dedicate this mandate to restoring the winning machinery of our great party,” he said.

His remarks come after the completion of the NPP’s national executive elections, which also saw Justin Frimpong Kodua retain the position of General Secretary and several other new executives elected to key national positions.

Mr Boadu said the new leadership would begin its work immediately, with the party’s organisational renewal and preparations for the 2028 elections forming a central part of its mandate.

Concluding his address, he expressed confidence in the capacity of the new executive team to lead the party into the next electoral contest and sought to reassure supporters that the NPP would approach the 2028 campaign with renewed determination.

“JB and his executives are back again. Victory is assured in the year 2028,” he declared.
