The Command said it had responded to the disturbances by reinforcing security operations in the community, with additional police personnel deployed to Larteh to strengthen public safety and prevent any further incidents.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 4, the Eastern Regional Police Command confirmed that calm had been restored following the disturbances recorded during the festival celebrations.

The Police said the increased deployment was intended to reinforce security arrangements in the area while safeguarding residents, festival participants and other members of the public.

The Command has also commenced engagements with relevant stakeholders as part of efforts to address tensions and establish conditions for sustained peace within the community.

According to the Police, discussions with the various stakeholders are aimed at ensuring that calm is maintained and that similar disturbances do not recur.

The Command has consequently issued a strong warning to individuals who may attempt to disrupt public order, stressing that anyone found breaching the peace would be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.

The Police, however, have not publicly disclosed the specific circumstances that triggered the disturbances during Saturday’s celebration, nor have they indicated whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The development comes against the backdrop of the cultural importance of the Odwira Festival to communities within the Akuapem traditional area, where the celebration is associated with thanksgiving, purification, renewal and the preservation of traditional heritage. Larteh Ahenase forms part of the traditional communities within the wider Akuapem area that participate in Odwira observances.

With additional security personnel now stationed in Larteh, the Eastern Regional Police Command says it will continue working with traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders to preserve peace and maintain public order.

The Command has urged residents and all other parties involved to cooperate with the security agencies as efforts continue to prevent further disturbances and restore complete stability to the community.
