New Patriotic Party Leader and Presidential Candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has congratulated the party’s newly elected national executives, while pledging his full support for the new leadership as it begins preparations for the 2028 general election.
In a congratulatory message issued on Sunday, October 4, 2026, following the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, Dr Bawumia described the completion of the internal elections as an important stage in the NPP’s reorganisation ahead of its next presidential campaign.
The election, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 3, produced a new national executive team headed by former General Secretary John Boadu as National Chairman, while Justin Frimpong Kodua retained the position of General Secretary.
Dr Bawumia said the internal exercise had been conducted peacefully and transparently, stressing that the eventual results represented the expressed preference of the party’s delegates.
“The outcome, therefore, reflects the wishes of the delegates of the New Patriotic Party,” the statement issued by his Communications Directorate said.
The NPP Leader said the conclusion of the internal contest should now signal the beginning of a concerted effort to prepare the party for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said the newly constituted national executive, under the leadership of Mr Boadu, had a responsibility to respond to the expectations of the party’s grassroots and commence the organisational work required to mount a strong campaign.
Dr Bawumia further pledged to support the new leadership in establishing an inclusive political structure in which the abilities, knowledge and experience of members would be fully utilised.
“In victory or in defeat, no talent should be left out in the 2028 campaign,” he stated.
His position is consistent with a broader call he has made following the internal elections for the various factions and campaign groups that emerged during the contest to put their differences aside and operate as one party.
Speaking after the swearing in of the new executives, Dr Bawumia urged members to consider the internal elections concluded and concentrate instead on the larger objective of restoring the NPP to political power. He stressed that every person who participated in the contest would have a role to play in the party’s campaign for 2028.
The NPP Presidential Candidate said the party’s success in 2028 would depend substantially on unity, organisation and the collective contribution of its members.
The newly elected leadership emerged from an extensive national executive contest held in Kumasi, with John Boadu securing 2,888 votes to become National Chairman. He defeated former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, who obtained 2,408 votes, while former National Chairman Paul Afoko received 790 votes and Samuel Kenneth Adolphus Ben Crabbe polled 41 votes.
Mr Kodua, meanwhile, secured another term as General Secretary after receiving 4,486 votes. He defeated Sylvester Tetteh, who obtained 1,340 votes, Eugene Boakye Antwi, who recorded 162 votes, and Dr Charles Dwamena, who received 129 votes.
The other members of the new national leadership include Kojo Fosu Boadu as First Vice Chairman, Henry Nana Boakye as Second Vice Chairman, Dr Mustapha Abdul Hamid as another National Vice Chairman and Nana Akomea as a National Vice Chairman. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover was elected National Organiser, while Alfred Kojo Thompson secured the position of National Treasurer.
The new leadership also includes Dennis Edward Miracles Aboagye as National Communications Director, Abanga Yakubu Fuseni as National Youth Organiser, Mavis Hawa Koomson as National Women’s Organiser and Mohammed Ali Suraj as National Nasara Organiser.
Mr Boadu has subsequently pledged to rebuild the party from the grassroots and restore its organisational strength, while emphasising responsibility, humility and unity as the central principles that should guide the new executive team.
For Dr Bawumia, however, the immediate task extends beyond the newly elected executives themselves. His message places particular emphasis on ensuring that members who contested and did not secure positions remain actively involved in the party’s preparations for 2028.
He has therefore called for an inclusive campaign structure in which experience, expertise and political networks developed during the internal contest can be redirected towards the party’s broader electoral objective.
With the national executive elections now concluded, the NPP is expected to shift its attention from internal competition to the organisational, political and campaign preparations required for the 2028 general election. The new leadership will consequently have the responsibility of coordinating the party’s national structures while working with Dr Bawumia and the wider membership to pursue the party’s objective of returning to government
