The ballot positions were determined on Wednesday, September 9, during the NPP’s balloting exercise for its forthcoming national executive elections. Boadu emerged first, placing his name at the top of the ballot for the highly anticipated chairmanship contest.

Former Second Vice Chairman of the party, Sammy Crabbe, secured the second position, while former National Chairman Paul Afoko obtained the third slot. Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko completed the four candidate lineup by taking the fourth position.

The balloting exercise represents another significant stage in the NPP’s preparations for its national executive elections, which are scheduled to take place on October 3 in the Ashanti Region. With the ballot order now established, the four contenders are expected to intensify their outreach to delegates as the election approaches.

The chairmanship contest has generated substantial interest within the party, particularly because the successful candidate will assume a central role in directing the NPP’s organisational affairs and shaping its strategy ahead of future electoral contests.

Boadu, who has previously served as the party’s General Secretary, has presented his experience within the organisation as an important qualification for the position. His campaign has emphasised rebuilding the NPP’s electoral strength, protecting the party’s existing parliamentary representation and reclaiming constituencies lost to political opponents.

Afoko, meanwhile, is seeking a return to the national chairmanship after previously occupying the position. His campaign has focused on renewed party unity, inclusiveness and reconnecting the organisation with its grassroots base.

Agyarko has also positioned himself as a candidate committed to organisational renewal, while calling for maturity and decorum throughout the internal contest. His campaign has centred on rebuilding the party and restoring confidence among its members and supporters.

With the four candidates now assigned their respective positions on the ballot, attention will increasingly turn to their engagements with delegates across the country. Party unity, grassroots mobilisation, internal cohesion, organisational restructuring and the NPP’s strategy for future elections are expected to remain prominent issues throughout the campaign.

The October 3 election will ultimately give NPP delegates the opportunity to select the individual they believe is best equipped to lead the party as National Chairman and contribute to the organisation’s next phase of political activity.
