The Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, revealed the development during an inspection visit to the airport by Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation on Tuesday.

According to Mrs Opare, the decision to dismiss the two workers was taken after the company received several complaints from passengers regarding alleged extortion within the airport’s car park area. She explained that internal monitoring efforts enabled management to identify the individuals involved, resulting in immediate disciplinary action.

“Just about two weeks ago, we had two people expelled from the airport, the car park workers who asked passengers for money. Instantly, because we were able to identify and zero in on the specific people, we were able to have them leave the airport immediately. So we are asking the general public to help us address these issues,” she stated.

The GACL Managing Director stressed that the company remains determined to remove all forms of unethical conduct and inappropriate behaviour from its facilities to guarantee a secure, efficient and convenient environment for passengers and other airport users.

She encouraged members of the public to promptly report any suspected cases of extortion, harassment or unprofessional behaviour involving airport personnel, indicating that such reports would assist management in responding swiftly and applying the necessary sanctions.

Mrs Opare maintained that accountability and improved service delivery remain central to the operations of the airport authority, adding that the dismissal of the two workers forms part of broader initiatives aimed at strengthening professionalism and restoring public confidence at the country’s busiest international aviation hub.

The move comes as the Ghana Airports Company Limited intensifies efforts to improve passenger relations, uphold service standards and ensure that travellers accessing airport facilities receive transparent and reliable services without facing improper demands.
