The Western Central Regional Police Command has apprehended four individuals suspected to be members of a robbery network allegedly responsible for a violent attack on a gold dealer at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area, following investigations into a robbery incident involving gold valued at approximately GH¢94.5 million.
The arrests were carried out after a robbery attack reported on March 11, 2026, at about 11:00 p.m., when the complainant, Mr Orls Oduro, was reportedly ambushed by armed assailants while travelling home after concluding operations at his gold purchasing business located at Tamakloe.
According to the Police, Mr Oduro had engaged the services of an Okada rider to transport him to his residence at Wassa Akropong when the attackers intercepted their movement and subjected them to a gunpoint robbery.
The Police indicated that the assailants made away with several valuables during the attack, including GH¢24,000 in cash, seven pounds and six matches of gold reportedly valued at GH¢94,530,000, together with an iPhone XR and a Techno Spark 12 mobile phone.
Following the official complaint, the Police Command commenced immediate investigations and launched intelligence gathering efforts aimed at identifying and apprehending the individuals connected to the robbery.
The Police disclosed that a coordinated intelligence driven operation conducted between July 21 and July 22, 2026, at Duaso and Domeabra led to the arrest of four suspects believed to be linked to the criminal activity.
The suspects have been identified as 25 year old Kwabena Amuah, also known as IK, 28 year old Mohammed Nasir, popularly referred to as Mallam, 24 year old Samuel Agyei, alias Okese 1, and 26 year old Kofi Gyasi, also known as Brefo.
The four individuals were subsequently presented before the Wassa Akropong District Court on July 23, 2026, where they were remanded into Police custody to assist investigators with further inquiries into the case.
The Western Central Regional Police Command stated that investigations remain ongoing and efforts are being intensified to apprehend another suspect identified only as Agogo, who is currently wanted in connection with the robbery.
The Command has appealed to members of the public who may possess reliable information regarding the whereabouts of the outstanding suspect to provide such details to the nearest Police Station to support ongoing efforts to bring all persons involved to justice.
The Police further assured residents, business operators and communities across the region of their continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property while pursuing individuals engaged in violent and organised criminal activities.
The development has renewed concerns about organised robbery operations targeting gold dealers within mining communities, particularly given the substantial value of gold reportedly taken during the attack, estimated at nearly GH¢94.5 million.
