Black Stars have safely arrived in the United States to begin the final phase of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with expectations continuing to build ahead of the global football spectacle.
The senior national side departed Cardiff on Wednesday, June 3, following several weeks of intensive training sessions and physical conditioning aimed at sharpening the squad for the challenges that lie ahead. The players, together with the technical bench and team officials, have now established their training base in Providence, where they will continue tactical drills and final adjustments before the tournament gets underway.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz travelled with the final 26 player squad, which was officially confirmed on Monday, June 1, after the successful completion of the team’s European training camp.
Ghana concluded an important stage of its build up on Tuesday, June 2, with an international friendly encounter at Cardiff City Stadium. Midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi handed the Black Stars the advantage in the second half, but a lapse in concentration during the closing stages allowed Lewis Koumas to restore parity for the hosts.
Although the match ended in a draw, the fixture provided the technical team with another valuable opportunity to assess combinations and fine tune strategies before the competition begins. With the Cardiff phase now complete, the focus has shifted entirely to strengthening team cohesion, refining tactical organisation and ensuring the squad reaches peak condition.
The Black Stars are also scheduled to face Jamaica national football team in another preparatory fixture on June 10, a contest expected to serve as the final test before Ghana opens its World Cup campaign.
Making their fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament, Ghana have been placed in Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team and Croatia national football team. The four time African champions will begin their journey against Panama on June 17 before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Having captured the imagination of the football world during their remarkable quarter final run at the 2010 World Cup, Ghana will be seeking to advance beyond the group stage once again and add another memorable chapter to the nation’s rich football history.
