A police patrol operation along the Accra–Cape Coast highway has resulted in the arrest of a driver after officers discovered fourteen boxes of shotgun ammunition being transported in a vehicle without the necessary documentation.
The suspect, identified as Francis Ampomah, was intercepted during a snap checkpoint exercise conducted by officers in the Apam area within the Central Region.
The vehicle, a Toyota Voxy with registration number GT 9748–26, was reportedly travelling from Accra towards Assin Fosu when it was stopped in the early hours of Wednesday, May 27, for routine inspection.
According to police sources, the driver was unable to produce any valid documents authorising the conveyance of the ammunition, raising immediate suspicion among the officers on duty.
Following the discovery, both the vehicle and the seized ammunition were escorted to the Apam Police Station to support further investigation and verification procedures.
The suspect has since been taken into custody and is assisting investigators with inquiries into the ownership, source, and intended destination of the ammunition.
Meanwhile, the seized items remain in police possession as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the transportation and determine whether any legal breaches occurred in the process.
