The suspect, identified as Abdul Manan, was apprehended on Friday during what law enforcement authorities described as a routine but targeted operation aimed at curbing the circulation and sale of illicit drugs within the area.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, the arrest was executed following intelligence reports that linked the suspect to alleged drug peddling activities within the Zujung community.

The operation, led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku, was carried out at approximately 1515 hours, during which officers moved in on the location believed to be the suspect’s base of operations, reportedly an over the counter chemical shop, and effected the arrest.

A search conducted at both the suspect’s shop and residence resulted in the discovery and retrieval of multiple exhibits, including 32 boxes of 50mg Tramadol and one box of 250mg Tramadol, all classified as controlled substances.

Further items recovered included one sachet of 120mg Royal Tramadol, one sachet of 100mg Tramadol, nine boxes of 32mg Astradol P, and 24 bottles of Koffex, all of which were documented as part of the seized evidence.

The Police statement indicated that both the suspect and the retrieved exhibits have been transferred to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit for continued investigation and possible prosecution as authorities intensify efforts to build a case.

It further noted that the suspect is currently in custody assisting investigators, while additional operations are underway to trace the origin of the seized substances and identify any potential accomplices connected to the alleged illicit drug network.

Security authorities emphasised that the operation forms part of an ongoing strategy to dismantle drug trafficking and distribution networks operating within the Tamale Metropolis and surrounding communities, as part of broader public safety and anti narcotics enforcement efforts.
