The Ghana Revenue Authority, formally referenced as Ghana Revenue Authority, has unveiled a two month amnesty initiative targeted at owners and users of uncustomed vehicles across the country, providing them with a defined opportunity to regularise their documentation without the imposition of penalties.

In a statement released on Monday, May 25, 2026, the Authority indicated that the amnesty period will commence on June 1 and conclude on July 31, 2026. The programme is designed to promote voluntary compliance among individuals who are operating vehicles that entered the country without adherence to the required customs clearance procedures.

According to the Authority, any penalties that would normally arise when such vehicles are intercepted or seized by Customs officers will be suspended throughout the duration of the amnesty window. This temporary relief, officials explained, is intended to encourage affected persons to take prompt steps to regularise the status of their vehicles and comply fully with national import regulations.

The Customs Division noted that the presence of uncustomed vehicles on Ghanaian roads has become an increasing concern, and the initiative forms part of broader administrative efforts to strengthen compliance within the customs and revenue enforcement framework. It also seeks to improve transparency and accountability in the importation and registration of vehicles within the country.

Vehicle owners and users have therefore been strongly advised to take advantage of the opportunity within the stipulated timeframe to secure the necessary customs documentation and avoid future sanctions.

The Authority further cautioned that once the amnesty period expires on July 31, 2026, strict enforcement measures will immediately take effect. Customs officers are expected to launch nationwide unannounced inspection exercises across major roads and communities to identify and impound all uncustomed vehicles in circulation.

These enforcement operations will involve intensified roadside checks and verification procedures aimed at ensuring that every imported vehicle within the country has been properly declared and cleared through the official customs system.

In addition, the Ghana Revenue Authority advised members of the public seeking clarification or assistance to visit the nearest Customs Collection Office or the GRA Head Office situated off Starlets 91 Road near the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ministries area of Accra.

The Authority also provided official channels for enquiries, including the email address info@gra.gov.gh, the toll free line 0800 900 110, and WhatsApp contact numbers 055 299 0000 and 020 063 1664.
