The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, widely known as Abronye DC, has been remanded into custody for two weeks as investigations intensify into allegations involving misinformation and controversial public remarks.
The outspoken opposition figure was rearrested on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, only weeks after he had earlier secured bail in connection with the same matter.
Kwame Baffoe Abronye was initially arrested on Monday, April 13, following accusations relating to offensive conduct, false publication, and statements allegedly deemed capable of generating fear and panic among sections of the public.
He was subsequently granted bail pending the continuation of investigations.
Authorities have now returned the senior New Patriotic Party official into custody as security agencies broaden investigations surrounding the allegations levelled against him.
Officials, however, are yet to publicly disclose comprehensive details regarding the circumstances surrounding the latest detention.
Sources familiar with the ongoing investigations indicate that the case forms part of wider efforts by state security institutions to clamp down on the dissemination of alleged false information and inflammatory political commentary considered capable of undermining public order and national stability.
Authorities have also not indicated whether additional charges are expected to be filed against Kwame Baffoe Abronye as investigations proceed.
The latest development is anticipated to further heighten political tensions between the governing administration and the opposition, particularly amid increasing national debate over free speech, political expression, and the role of state institutions in enforcing public order.
