British pop sensation Dua Lipa has initiated legal proceedings against Samsung Electronics, accusing the multinational technology corporation of allegedly using her image without authorisation to promote its television products.

According to documents submitted before a federal court in California, the award winning musician is seeking no less than 15 million dollars in damages over claims that her likeness was used without consent on packaging for Samsung television sets distributed across the United States.

The lawsuit alleges that the company featured a copyrighted photograph identified as “Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024” on cardboard packaging for televisions, thereby creating the impression that the artist had endorsed the products.

Legal representatives for Dua Lipa argued that the corporation derived commercial benefit from the use of her image without securing approval or providing financial compensation.

“Ms Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge,” the legal filing stated.

The singer further accused Samsung Electronics of copyright infringement, trademark violations, and breaching her publicity rights.

Court filings indicated that Dua Lipa became aware of the alleged infringement in June 2025 and subsequently demanded that the company discontinue the use of her image. However, the lawsuit claims the packaging allegedly remained in circulation even after the request was made.

In response, Samsung Electronics denied deliberately misappropriating the artist’s likeness. The company stated that the material had been supplied by an external partner which assured Samsung that all required authorisations and permissions had been properly secured.

“We have actively sought and remain open to a constructive resolution with Ms Lipa’s team,” the company said in its statement.

The legal dispute has since generated widespread attention across social media platforms, where some online users have reportedly begun referring to the television packaging as “Dua Lipa TV Boxes.”
