Two candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination in the Nkwanta South Municipality were involved in a motorbike accident while travelling to their examination centre, raising fresh concerns about the difficult conditions confronting students within the municipality.

The students sustained injuries during the incident and were immediately transported to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital where they received medical treatment.

Despite the physical and emotional ordeal, the candidates demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination by later reporting to the examination centre to continue writing their papers after undergoing medical care. Their decision reflected a strong commitment to pursuing their education despite the challenging circumstances surrounding the examinations.

Confirming the incident in an interview with Adom News, the Municipal Education Director for Nkwanta South, Jonathan Korsinah, disclosed that persistent insecurity within the municipality has created significant difficulties for both students and parents during the examination period.

According to Mr Korsinah, some parents declined requests to allow their children to remain in temporary camps ahead of the examinations because of safety concerns linked to the unstable security situation in parts of the municipality.

He further explained that numerous candidates have struggled academically after remaining at home for nearly three months without regular classroom instruction. The prolonged disruption to academic activities, he noted, has severely affected preparation levels among students and contributed to a noticeable decline in examination performance compared to previous years.

Mr Korsinah expressed concern that the worsening insecurity threatens ongoing efforts aimed at improving educational standards and academic outcomes within the municipality.

He therefore appealed to residents and community leaders to embrace peace and support initiatives aimed at restoring stability, stressing that persistent violence and insecurity are undermining learning opportunities and jeopardising the future prospects of children across the area.

Meanwhile, visits by Adom News to several BECE centres within the municipality revealed heightened security arrangements, including the deployment of police officers and joint military patrol teams tasked with protecting candidates and ensuring calm throughout the examination period.
