The roll out of a water project at Subinso II is providing a significant, long-term sigh of relief from waterborne diseases such as typhoid.
These initiatives, led by Madamfo Ghana Foundation, focuses on improving access to safe, potable water and sanitation, which directly combats the fecal-oral transmission of diseases.
“We are pleased to be able to help support clean water access in this community, especially given all the health concerns the Subin River has caused,” said, Mr Enoch Atipoe, Deputy Country Director of Madamfo Ghana Foundation.
“The new borehole will provide potable water that will save the community from avoidable waterborne diseases and infections caused by heavy dependence on the Subin River,” he said.
The water project can supply estimated 4,250 litres of water per a day to support a large number of households.
Nana Akosua Benewaa II, Gyaasehemaa of Subinso No. II said residents of the community would have access to clean water.
She expressed gratitude to Madamfo Ghana Foundation for the intervention and called for the expansion of the water system in the area because of population increase.
Funding provided for the implementation of this mechanized borehole will contribute to the livelihood of the community, curtail the outbreak of typhoid fever and help reduce burden on women and school children from walking long distance to fetch water.
The Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi commended the NGO Madamfo Ghana Foundation for their significant contributions to improving potable water access in the municipality.
This project is part of efforts to address water challenges, with the MCE emphasizing the importance of NGO partnerships in rural development.
The MCE revealed that plans are in place to introduce and expand community water systems to tackle water crises in the municipality particularly in Subinso II.
