Authorities have remanded several individuals in connection with a violent confrontation between two youth factions at Sankor in Winneba.
The altercation reportedly erupted on Sunday, following a prior dispute between the groups that had been brought to the attention of local police. The disagreement escalated into a larger conflict, with witnesses claiming that members of both sides brandished weapons and discharged firearms during the incident.
Early reports suggested that the clash had resulted in fatalities. However, the Winneba Divisional Commander, ACP Ibrahim Opoku, told Citi News on Tuesday, January 27, that no deaths had occurred.
According to ACP Opoku, while there were no fatalities, two individuals sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment under police protection at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba and the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
“We have apprehended some suspects, who have now been remanded in custody. Contrary to earlier reports, no one has died. A few people were injured, and they are currently receiving medical care,” ACP Opoku stated.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and authorities are actively pursuing other individuals believed to be involved in the incident.
