Mr. Kennedy Agyapong has emphasised that leadership comes from God and not from chaos, and appealed for unity regardless of the outcome of the contests ahead.
“Elections will pass, but unity must remain,” he said, drawing applause from the congregation at Ken’s National Praise organized over the weekend.
Mr. Agyapong again called for peace before, during, and after the primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging party members to avoid violence, bitterness, and division.
Mr. Agyapong is one of the five candidates contesting. This is his second time. At the last time he came an impressive second against then Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
At the event, a cross-section of senior Christian leaders in the country openly threw their weight behind Kennedy Agyapong, describing him as the kind of calm, unifying leader the New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs at this stage of its journey.
The endorsement came at Ken’s National Praise, a well-attended interdenominational thanksgiving service organized by Kennedy Agyapong’s team held at the First Love Church, near the University of Professional Studies, Accra. The programme brought together leading clergy, gospel musicians, party supporters, and members of the public.
Among those present were well-known prophets, Methodist bishops, Presbyterian ministers, and senior elders and pastors of The Church of Pentecost. Several of the clergy took turns to pray for Mr. Agyapong and publicly expressed confidence in his leadership, noting that the Ghana requires a leader who has compassion a vision to create jobs for the youth and solve the nation’s problems.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Agyapong struck a calm and reflective tone, stressing that the event was not organised as a political rally but as a moment of national thanksgiving. He thanked God for life and preservation, recalling that the past year had been difficult for many Ghanaians, with some losing loved ones and others facing serious economic challenges.
“As long as we have breath, we have a reason to praise God,” he said, quoting Psalm 150:6. He added that many had started the year together but did not live to see the present moment, a reminder, he said, of God’s mercy.
The event was also characterised by spirited gospel music ministrations from some of the country’s leading gospel artistes, including Daughters of Glorious Jesus, SP Kofi Sarpong, MOGmusic, Kofi Owusu Peprah, Selina Boateng, Amy Newman, Stella Dugan and Grace Ashy.
The programme was described by attendees as orderly, prayerful, and uplifting. Many observers noted that the strong show of support from respected clergy and gospel ministers underscored growing calls within the party for leadership that is grounded in faith, humility, and national unity.
Political watchers say the open endorsement by senior religious figures could further strengthen Mr. Agyapong’s standing as the NPP prepares to select its next flag bearer.
