Several people have sustained injuries following a violent confrontation involving youth from Ekumfi Eyisam and Mankesim Edumadze in the Central Region.
Reports indicate that the incident stemmed from a disagreement between two individuals from the opposing communities during a beach rave held in Saltpond. What began as a personal altercation later escalated into wider communal tension.
The situation reportedly worsened on Saturday night after a young man from the Eyisam community was severely beaten. The assault is said to have triggered anger among Eyisam youth, who subsequently regrouped and moved into the Edumadze community, leading to violent clashes and disorder.
During the confrontation, gunshots were reportedly fired. One person sustained gunshot-related injuries and is currently receiving medical care at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
In another disturbing development, a second victim is believed to have been attacked with acid. The injured person’s whereabouts remain unknown as of the time of reporting, raising further concern among residents and families in the area.
As of now, the Ghana Police Service and other local authorities have not issued an official statement on the incident. However, sources within the communities say security presence has increased, and the situation has largely calmed.
Residents say both Ekumfi Eyisam and Edumadze have returned to a relatively peaceful state, though fear and tension linger. Community leaders and concerned residents are calling for swift police investigations, medical support for victims, and dialogue between the communities to prevent further violence.
