The Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers has announced its intention to increase prices of eggs on the market by 39% effective Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
According to the Association, the small sizes from first time layers will go for ₵30 per crate, while the unsorted will increase from ₵23 to ₵32 per crate.
Speaking to Daily Searchlight’s Collins Fosu-Appiah, Bono Regional Organizer and National Executive Committee Member (NEC), Johnson Yeboah, revealed the farmers are compelled to adjust the prices because of the high cost of production.
The Sunyani Municipal Vice Chairman contented that cost of production has gone up due to unavailability of maize, soya beans and other materials on the market.
“The high cost of production from maize to the last item, everything has gone up. The most unfortunate part of it all is the fact that the prices are still going up, and we can’t even predict when this increment will stop.” The future is full of uncertainty, he stated.
“We have met as National Executives and decided to increase prices of egg effective Tuesday, unsorted one will increase from the ₵23 to ₵32 per crate and the small size from first time layers will go for ₵30 per crate,” he said.
He appealed to the general public to accept the new adjustment to help sustain the poultry industry.
