About 40 schools in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region have benefited from an agroecology training initiative by the Showboys Foundation. The programme aims to establish crop and vegetable farms in basic and senior high schools across the region, promoting food self-sufficiency and sparking youth interest in agriculture.
The beneficiaries include 39 basic schools and one senior high school (Twifo Hemang Senior High Technical School).
Mr. Isaac Agyiri, CEO of the Showboys Foundation and the visionary behind the initiative stated that the training is designed to prepare students for future careers in agriculture while instilling in them a strong passion for farming.
He also appealed to the government for support in the form of farming tools and equipment to enhance agricultural practices in schools. Adding that if schools are supported with farming equipment, they can produce enough food to feed themselves and contribute to national food security,” he added.
Mr. Isaac Agyiri further encouraged young people not to focus solely on white-collar jobs but to view agriculture as a viable and rewarding profession. Some of the students who participated in the training expressed excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and deeper knowledge in agriculture.
