Accra, Aug 27, GNA- Over 11000 candidates are writing the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Ahafo Region.
According to Mr Yaw Frimpong, the Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the candidates comprise 5,004 males and 6,807 females.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Goaso, the regional capital, he said 8,879 of the candidates were from the public and 2,932 from private schools in the region.
He said the WASSCE was being conducted at 23 centres, with 18 public and eight private schools participating, saying the education directorate had intensified measures to stem examination malpractices.
Mr Frimpong expressed worry that Ahafo remained a hot-spot for examination malpractices for years, explaining that the GES in collaboration with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) had held extensive engagements with the authorities of the various Senior High Schools in the region to bring the situation under control.
“The school heads have all signed an agreement to strictly prevent examination malpractices this year”, he stated, and cautioned the candidates to refrain from taking prohibited materials into the examination hall.
