The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Justin Frimpong Kodua, has associated himself with the stance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to dismiss the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and her two deputies citing alleged gross incompetence.

He made the statement on Joy TV in an interview with the host Evans Mensah on the 8th of July 2025 in Accra.

This occurred as a result of his fury arising out of the way the Electoral Commission is handling the Ablekuma North elections which have generated a lot of controversy.

This was in an answer to a specific question as to whether he supports the stance of the NDC and its chairperson Hon Asiedu Nketia. The NDC has been calling for the removal of the chairperson of the Electoral Commission and her two deputies. Asiedu Bketiah cites gross incompetence.

Justin Frimpong Kodua retorted that he has no choice but to buy into the call with respect to what is happening at Ablekuma, where he stated that the EC is displaying bias and inconsistency.

“From what I am seeing, the EC has failed in its duty to declare my candidate winner with a clear margin of 414 votes ahead of her competitor. The EC is trying hard to change the results to favor the NDC candidate. I don’t know whether Jane Mensah’s sudden game shift is to please Asiedu Nketia to get parole from him,” he stated.

The General Secretary, who looked so agitated and furious, said that his party would not partake in the elected intended take place at 19 polling centers in the Ablekuma North Rerun on Friday, 11th July 2025. The election is to close a chapter on the disputed results from the December 2024 elections.

He stated that this is because the court has given a specific instructions to the EC.

He informed the host that the decision to boycott the rescheduled election was at the behest of the National Executive Committee of the NPP at a meeting at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

“We are very clear in our mind that we won the December 7th election at Ablekuma North with a clear margin per our collation, and there’s no doubt about it. We have our party’s collated results, scanned pink sheets, and results to support our case. How come the EC doesn’t have their pink sheets in all 281 polling centres, and the NDC too don’t have their pink sheets yet are challenging the results? So we feel some fishy deal, and we will not be part of an illegality,” he stated.

He argued further that participating in the elections will amount to contempt for a court order and that the EC must be cited for contempt of court for disobeying specific court instructions.

He assured the interviewer that they have resorted to the law courts for redress. He expressed the hope that justice will speak. He stated that failing that posterity will judge the EC.

He added that this is a clear case of miscarriage of justice and fairness.

He warned of democratic chaos in future elections that will be marred by intimidation, thuggery, hooliganism, and violence because parties will protect their ballot since they cannot trust the EC as referee.
