The contribution of vulcanizers to the social and economic development of the country cannot be over-emphasized.
In the recent past, the vulcanizing industry has ballooned exponentially. One hardly moves a mile in the cities without sighting their presence.
Admittedly, the nature of the vulcanizing work necessitates that it be sited by the roadside which I have no qualms therewith.
My beef however is with the actual activities of these vulcanizers on the ground at their various workplaces. One can sight them inflating or checking tire pressure right in the middle of the road, exposing themselves and other road users to danger.
This action and inaction of these vulcanizers is a time bomb waiting to explode, I mean the possibility of unruly motorists running over them in the immediate future.
I strongly suspect that they are oblivious of the danger they expose themselves thereto or are blinded by the desire to eke out at all cost, a living for themselves and their families.
This is where I believe the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Department of Urban Roads (DUR), and the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) readily come into the equation, by ensuring and sensitizing these vulcanizers to create safe havens at their various operational areas where they can attend to the needs of a motorist without endangering their lives and that of other road users in our collective interest.
The aforementioned bodies must of necessity take up this mantle to save costs and lives.
Trust someone is listening
Sincerely yours,
