The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, is said to be due to hold a media briefing today, Monday, March 24 to provide an update on all cases currently under investigation and actions taken so far under Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
The briefing, expected to take place at the Ministry of Justice, will offer key insights into the government’s legal efforts, case progress, and measures aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the justice system.
The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) is an extra-legal initiative that was launched by President John Mahama, whilst he was President –Elect and has come under criticism for lacking any legal basis. In effect, its findings cannot be deployed as the basis for any governmental business.
It remains to be seen the nature of the briefing to be given by the Attorney-General, and how much of that briefing would be based on the work of ORAL. Anything that he announces based on ORAL, however, may be subject to legal challenges down the line.
Media reports yesterday however suggested that Dr. Ayine is also expected to outline the government’s commitment to upholding the Rule of Law and strengthening the country’s legal framework.
More details will be provided following the briefing.
