A senior police officer who was set upon by some youth in Wenchi Municipal Police Headquarters and badly beaten has denied the incident leading to the assault on him. He has denied that the assault was a consequence of him discharging his gun.
He has claimed that rather, he had invited the wife of the main suspect to the police station, which had angered the youth, who then set upon him and assaulted him.
The dastardly act is reported to have happened at the Wenchi Municipal Police Command. Ironically. the man who was assaulted is the Head of Command in the municipality.
DSP Nana Boakye Yiadom, the Wenchi Municipal Police Commander was beaten by unidentified youth on Tuesday December 10, 2024 at the Wenchi. He however has explained to our correspondence Nana Anfreh Damanata that the Wenchi Municipal Director of Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Mr Emmanuel Afful had reported to the Wenchi Police that thieves had broken into their warehouse and made away with items stocked in there.
According to Nana Boakye Yiadom, the items stolen included rice.
He stated that through a tip off by key informants, it revealed that the rice was in a full loaded truck around Tohaba area, so they went there to make arrest of the suspect.
The Police Commander stated that however, upon reaching the house of the suspect, he was not at home.
“But we found the rice full loaded around the house while the the suspect was nowhere to be found,” Nana explained.
According to DSP Nana Boakye Yiadom, in the absence of the main suspect, they questioned his wife about the whereabouts of her husband and she said he was not at home. The police also asked her about the items and she said the items were stolen by her husband.
Nana Boakye Yiadom further explained that he therefore asked the woman to follow him to the police station to write her statement.
“I went to office and the youth came and attacked me. I didn’t shoot a gun on them,” he said.
He mentioned one Cheddar as the group leader and also described the group as Jangoo Boys.
