A young man has claimed that he has been robbed at gunpoint by two policemen. According to Anortogie
Emmanuel, his ordeal happened about three weeks ago around the Jubilee House in Accra, where he
was beaten, handcuffed and robbed at gunpoint by two police officers.
Anortogie Emmanuel’s ordeal is currently doing the rounds on social media.
AS TOLD BY ANORTOGIE EMMANUEL:-
“I am called Anortogie Emmanuel. Recently, I was going to Accra, I hitched a ride on an Okada. As we
were coming, we reached the frontage of the Jubilee House and were stopped by two police men on a
Motorbike, one of the new ones.
“They tried to stop us so we stopped. When we stopped, they said that they have arrested us, so I tried to
get off the Okada Motorbike. When I got off the bike, the Okada rider managed to escape.
“They chased him but they could not arrest him, then they came back and arrested me and put me in
handcuffs and said that they were taking me to the office.
“I told them that I am a mere rider of the motorbike so what was my offence and what was I going to do in
their office. They told me to shut up and one of them slapped me.
“I was restrained and they handcuffed me. They took me away but they did not take me to the office but
took me to a place under a tree.
“They assaulted me and tortured me with threat of death to give me the code to my Momo account, They
took the cash I had on me of GHC120.00, then because of the threats I gave them the code and they
transferred GHC3,700.00 from my account to another number.
“One of them said that now that they have the money they should shoot me and leave, but the one who
had the gun was an Ewe.
“I had been speaking to him in the Ewe language, so they took off the cuffs and left me at a place I did not
know. Later I managed to get home.
“When I got home I made a report at the Adenta Police Station. The Adenta Police said that I should
rather report the case to the Cantonments Police so we went there.
“The Cantonments Police said that they have identified the owner of the number and they thought he was
a police officer, and they were going to arrest him. They refused to allow me to see him, they said that I
should be patient. And that is how the whole matter ended.
“The matter happened about three weeks ago. The police investigator, a woman, said that I should be
patient, and that is where we are.
“The message is still on my phone. I have the number of the motorbike they were using. It is GP 8145.”
